He was a native of Westpoint, TN, and a self-employed electrician.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Herman and Virginia Simpson Smith.

He is survived by his wife: Shirley Smith, Lawrenceburg, TN; three brothers: Joey Simpson (Maxine), Westpoint, TN, Otis Smith, Lawrenceburg, TN, Samuel Smith, Westpoint, TN.
