Opal Elinor Garland Haywood, age 79, of Columbia, TN passed away Sunday, June 9, 2019 at her residence.
She was a homemaker and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Opal was the eldest daughter of the late Joseph Earl and Bertie Christine Garland and the second oldest of 17 children.
She was preceded in death by one sister: Dorothy Walters; and four brothers: Virgil, Earl Jr. “June Bug”, Donnie, and David Garland.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years: Leon Haywood; son: Ronnie Haywood, Columbia, TN; three brothers: Ted Garland (Ann), Jerry Garland (Donna), and Lanny Garland (Rena), all of Lawrenceburg, TN; eight sisters: Joy Staggs, Mable Patterson (Charles), Brenda Bohn (Bob), Wilma Johnston (Henry), Judy Davis (Randy), all of Lawrenceburg, TN, Sue Riddle and Sandra Pierce (Jerry), both of Summertown, TN, Doris White (David) of Centerville, TN; brother-in-law: Billy Walters of Lawrenceburg, TN; several loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Opal Elinor Garland Haywood were conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019 with Al Chappell officiating. Burial followed at Macedonia Cemetery in Lawrence County, TN. Neal Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
