William Michael “Mickey” Dunn
William Michael “Mickey” Dunn, age 67 of Lawrenceburg TN, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2020 at his residence in Lawrenceburg, TN.
He was a beloved member of the Lawrence County School System, of which he was a part for 44 years. He was a former member of TSSAA Board of Control from 1995-2004, former Boys Head Basketball Coach at Lawrence County High School from 1985-1990, former Athletic Director from 1982-1990, and a former Principal of Lawrence County High School from 1991-2007 where he founded “Beach Week” and the Centennial Scholarship. He co-founded the Friend to Friend Mentoring Program. He was the #1 Wildcat fan and was known by students and friends as “Daddy Mick”. He was awarded the Distinguished Retired Educator Award given by the Lawrence County Board of Education and inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2003. He was a representative for Mac Brown Photography’s secondary school division and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mr. Dunn impacted many young men and women during his 40+ years as an educator, principal, coach, central office worker, Friend to Friend Coordinator, and friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Russell Graham Dunn and Sara Holt Dunn; and father-in-law: Jimmy Walker.
He is survived by his wife: Kathy Dunn; mother-in-law: Cleo Walker; sons: Drew Dugger, Dustin Dugger; daughter: Mandy McClaren (Eric); sister: Mary Virginia Dunn, Jan Dunn(Joe Pass); grandchildren: Abany Dugger, Hallie Dugger, Weston Hagen, AnnaLee, Tallan, and Grayson McClaren; nephews: Mike Dunn (Kim), David Pass (Jenny), Drew Pass; great-nephews: Carson Dunn, Ryan Dunn, Steven Pass; great-niece: Charlotte Pass. He is also survived by current Lawrence County High School Boy’s Head Basketball Coach, Shaen Clark, Current Lawrence County High School Principal, Michael Adkins, and the entire Wildcat family.
Funeral services for Mickey Dunn were a private family event. A Celebration of Life Service was held for the public on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ralph Benson Memorial Gymnasium. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mickey Dunn Scholarship fund, the American Diabetes Association, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, all of which may be taken through Lawrence County High School.
