Lee Roy Hammond

Lee Roy Hammond, age 83, died peacefully in the arms of his wife on June 14, 2021at their home in Lawrenceburg, TN after a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 22, 1937 in Powell, Alabama to Ernest and Letha Hammond. He was one of eight children and a country boy through and through. He dearly loved his home out in the country where his weathered hands worked the land, built the home in which his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were happily raised, and jimmied a solution to every bicycle, or misplaced part he found. He was happiest outside tinkering with a bicycle or antique/thrift shopping. His home, his family and his church were his heaven on earth.
A graduate of Loretto High school, his wisdom ran deeper in the word of God and was always happy to share a Bible or message of Christ’s love with everyone. A member of the Baptist faith, Lee Roy took pride in his membership to Gum Springs Baptist Church and his family finds comfort in knowing he is at peace in the eternal home. He will be remembered for his teasing jokes, most entertaining stories, testimony of faith, generous nature, and his willingness to help any neighbor or friend in need. In his later years, when Alzheimer’s and cancer robbed him of his strength, it brought a softness to his heart that those who loved him will always treasure. During this time, Lee Roy taught us patience, the importance of family and the value of unconditional love. Lee Roy’s memory will be cherished through his beautiful artwork he enjoyed sharing with everyone he met, by his adoring wife Clarice Nell McGuire Hammond, and longtime caretaker and daughter, Melinda Hammond Moses.
In the last years of his life, Lee Roy’s strong opinions were adhered to through his only son-in-law, Jon. Mowing the yard, fixing everything that was broken and making sure things were “just so,” giving Lee Roy the peace of mind that everyone and everything he loved was taken care of.
Lee Roy is preceded in death by his Parents, Ernest and Letha Hammond; Brothers, Ozzo, Otto, Cleo, and Leo Hammond.
He is survived by his Wife, Clarice Nell; Daughters, Melinda (Jon), Melissa; Three Grandchildren, Keirstan, Kazz, Kaleb; Two Great Grandchildren, Navey-Klaire and Sayla-Kennedy; Brother, Bobby (Ann) Hammond; Sisters, Jane Eighner and Joyce Bowery.
The family would like to give special thanks to Ron and Barbara Robins, who were always there to help, listen, and uplift Lee Roy and Family.
