Ed Tietgens passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.
A longtime member of the Brentwood United Methodist Church, Ed was also a member of the Wesley Forum Class. He was Founder and President of Tietgens Enterprises, Inc. for 45 years and was also VP of C.B. Ragland Wholesalers. As a member of the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Wholesale Grocers Association, Ed was instrumental in negotiating a merger of that entity with the Tennessee Grocers Association in 1995; a move that elevated TGA as an advocate for all tiers of Tennessee’s food industry. Ed subsequently served on TGA’s Board of Directors. Ed loved the Lord and was a caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather for his family. He had a brilliant business mind and a work ethic that was unparalleled. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded by his loving wife of 51 years: Ilo Tietgens.
He is survived by his sons: Todd Tietgens (Tracy) of Lewisburg, TN, Mark Tietgens (Laurie) of Brentwood, TN, Jeff Tietgens (Delia) of Mount Pleasant, TN; grandchildren: Ryan Tietgens (Mareesa), Eric Tietgens (Shelby), Megan Tietgens, Ashby Viertel (Adam), Sarah Beasley (Cameron), Tyler Tietgens and Lexie Tietgens; great-grandchildren: Bella Tietgens, Emmerson Ilo Tietgens, Finley Tietgens, Huntleigh Tietgens, Bonnie Tietgens and Drew Avery Viertel; brother: Bill Tietgens of Amarillo, TX; and fiancé: Marilyn Martin of Brentwood, TN.
Dr. Davis Chappell conducted a service to celebrate Ed’s life on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Brentwood United Methodist Church.
