James Garry (“Butch”) Lewis

James Garry (“Butch”) Lewis
James Garry (“Butch”) Lewis, age 73, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023 at Huntsville Hospital, with family by his side.
Born on July 31, 1949, he was a 1967 graduate of Lawrence County High School, and was more commonly known as Gary to his classmates and the staff at Ethridge Elementary and LCHS.  He was also known as “Butch” to family and close friends.  A sports-enthusiast, he played baseball and basketball with friends in his youth, but excelled in tennis as an adult, championing many recreational league tournaments. Butch always loved a good joke or prank, having a favorite punch-line: “What’s time to a pig?” Listening to music was also a favorite pastime, and Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit in the Sky” was, appropriately, the last song he requested, played at full volume.
He was preceded in death by his parents and their siblings, but is survived by a sister: Joan Johnson, of Huntsville, AL; brothers: Joe (“Bo”) Lewis (Nancy Ward) of Covington, TN, and Rick Lewis (Elizabeth), of Twinsburg, OH; nephew: Dan Lewis (Belinda) of Hendersonville, TN; nieces: Laura Lewis of Lawrenceburg, TN, Margie Lewis of Streetsboro, OH, and Monica (Monnie) McBride of Windham, OH. He was the grand-uncle to four: (Erik, Penny, Flint and Jesse); and step-grandfather to three; numerous cousins also survive in the extended family.
Private memorial services for James Garry (“Butch”) Lewis will be held at a later date.  Memories and condolences can be shared by way of: www.berryhillfh.com.
