Ona Mae Porter, age 96, passed away Friday, September 15, 2023.
She was born February 15, 1927 in Lawrence County, TN to George Warner Ferrell, Sr. and Madgie Shelton Ferrell. She was a seamstress, supervisor for Fly Manufacturing, and also worked for Prestolite on their assembly line prior to her retirement. She was a faithful child of God and a member of the First Holy Church of Christ in Decatur, AL.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Clarence Junior Porter; son: Kenneth Neal Porter; brothers: Sylvester, Johnny, George and Jamey Ferrell; and sisters: Molly Garrad, Nancy Schaffer, Iva Stutts, Pearl May, Marie McGee, Belle Hughes, Frances McMahan and Ruth Vaughn.
She is survived by her daughter: Janice Wagner (Scott); sister: JoAnn Baker; four grandchildren: Neal Porter (Heather), April Looney (Chris), Allison Hamm, Andrea Woodard (Wes); eight great-grandchildren: Baxley Porter, Jacob Porter, John Ashton Looney, Ari Looney, Ally Lauersdorf (David), Addison Hamm, Wagner Woodard, Anderson Woodard; one great-great-grandchild: Abel Lee Lauersdorf; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Ona Mae Porter were held Monday, September 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Charles Williams officiating. Burial followed at Union Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Tennessee. Serving as pallbearers were: Jacob Porter, Terry Hughes, Del McGee, Wes Woodard, Keith Vaughn and Chris Looney. Honorary Pallbearer was: Brian Green. Peck Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
